• 17-02-2021: New MCF Online Fair Play Rules The MCF has drawn up Fair Play rules and guidelines for games played in MCF on-line events. All club secretaries and captains are asked to make their members aware of these, which come into immediate effect. The policy will be reviewed and updated in the light of experience. Although the document is quite detailed, the basics can be expressed briefly and simply: Players Do not cheat or receive assistance in games (from a chess computer, book, database or another person). Be nice and courteous to all other players, always. Any issues – contact your captain (and no one else). Captains Any issues – inform the event controller (and no one else).

• 15-03-2020: MCF Coronavirus advice update While Council’s advice issued last week regarding the coronavirus crisis was both sound and sensible, things have been moving very fast and it is already clear that new guidance is required. The ECF has now recommended that all evening leagues suspend their activities. In response to this, as well as to numerous concerns expressed to the Council of the MCF, and in line with action taken this weekend by other local leagues, it has been decided to suspend the Manchester league for at least the next five weeks, with immediate effect. It is possible that clubs with matches already arranged for this week might agree to go ahead with them; this will be at their own risk of course, and in such a case the guidance offered by the MCF last week remains relevant. The next MCF Council meeting is scheduled for Monday 8th June 2020, but the situation will be monitored on a week-by-week basis and clubs will be kept informed of developments. Best wishes to all. • 15-11-2019: Worsley Chess Club – change of venue and match night (16.11.2019) From week beginning 25th November, Worsley Chess Club’s new venue will be: Swinton Legion Club 1A Cheetham Road Swinton Manchester M27 4UQ Tel: 0161 793 8262 Match night: Monday Club night: Thursday The MCF Directory has been updated accordingly. Worsley’s home fixtures in the Manchester league have been moved from Tuesday to Monday of the same week. If this causes any difficulties for the away club, please inform me as soon as possible and copy to the Worsley CC Secretary Daryl Harman. • 07-06-2019: The 2018 - 2019 season completed on May 31st 2019 and all competitions are decided. Congratulations to all the winners and all players taking part.
• 08-10-2018: An update to the Clubs Directory is available by clicking on "Directory"in the list on the right. This is dated 28.09.2018. If an older version apears instead, you might need to refresh the page and/or clear your cache, which is often an option under History in your browser.
• 22-09-2018: The fixtures for 2018-19 have been uploaded and the clubs’ information updated. The webmaster John Upham has today emailed captains etc with their log-in credentials for reporting results. If anyone has been missed out, please let me know. Once the season is underway, please report any glitches straight to me, rather than to the webmaster. • 25-01-2018: The Results Service website should be working normally now: if anyone is still having problems, please report them to me. The webmaster recommends using one of these browsers to access the website: Mozilla Firefox, Google Crome or Safari, rather than Microsoft Edge or older browsers.
• 25-01-2018: The ECF January 2018 Grading List has just been published. Please note that the January grades will not be used by the MCF, except possibly as data to enable a more accurate estimated grade be allocated to a previously ungraded player, as laid out in the MCF Memorandum on Estimated Grades for Ungraded Players.
• 15-12-2017: This week some captains have been experiencing problems trying to enter results. The most recent Windows update seems to be the cause. • 25-09-2017: Fixture change: the match between Altrincham & Hale and Urmston 1 in the Wahltuch Trophy is now a home match for Urmston 1, on Thursday 14th December.
